With winter now upon us, perhaps one mercy it brings us, is time to give some of our best kept body parts a rest from routine buffing and repolishing; hands and feet need to be restored and rejuvenated during these months, where dry skin and cracks may have occurred or kickstarted during summertime sandal wearing.
The perfect way to activate your skin back into action is with a winter healing sugar scrub or hot oil treatment. Here our Michaeljohn beauty therapist, Samantha Landesberg – explains how to create your own to just the right texture to heal, exfoliate and emolliate feet. And moreover it's much more enticing when it's a 'Made your own' jar!
Take 3 simple yet effective ingredients: Brown Sugar, Cocoa butter, Almond Oil
1) Take a cup of brown sugar, a quarter cup of almond oil, 3 pumps of cocoa butter and mix all together. Apply on hands all over, rub palms of hands together, rinse under hot water.( when you rinse all sugar desolves and moisture sinks it) This is best for Exfoliation – getting rid of dead skin.
2) For the hot oil treatment: Take ½ cup of any oil, put in a few drops of incense e.g lavender, teatree. Make it like a bamburee, so fill bowl with hot water from the kettle, place another bowl on top of it. Warm the mix up for 5 mins, then brush over hands, wrap them in cling film and leave over hands for 15mins. Take it all off, wash hands and pat dry. This is really good for moisturising dry, cracked skin.
Benefits:
Keeping feet clean if they are cracked is key to avoiding infection.
Unlike a salt scrub, sugar scrubs do not dry the skin.
Sugar scrubs are full of alpha-hydroxy - which is exfoliating and emollient.
